BOOK WEEK
Book Week at Holy Trinity is back…Yes! And what fun we had.
It all started on Tuesday with Perform Education visiting our school with their show ‘Story Quest’. ELC to Year 2 were involved in the first session and then Year 3 – Year 6 had the afternoon session. Each session went for an hour. The sessions each unpacked three of the books nominated in the 2022 shortlist. The show was interactive and involved much singing, dancing and participation. The theme running through the performance was look, listen, and respect the land that we are on, that different is wonderful and to stop being in such a rush to get to happily ever after.

On Thursday we continued the celebrations with our first ever ‘Outdoor Book Week Parade’. It was fabulous, the parents were back, the outfits were incredible, and the parading was impressive.
The outdoor parade was actually perfect as parents could easily scoot back to work and we could all easily fit on the blacktop. We were then all able to head to the hall to announce the winning books, watch some Book Week iMovie’s by Year 6 and take 1000 more photos. Many bookmarks and stickers were given out and much laughter was had.

To conclude the day, we met in the hall where the children got to watch the award winning and cost-free performance by the staff, entitled ‘Wittle Wed Widding Hood goes to Gwandmas’ – it was hysterical. There was Tai Kwon Do fighting, wolf chasing, bus trips, shopping mall scenes and some very big feet on display. The staff are always a bit hesitant to be involved in the Book Week Staff Play but gosh they love it when I say ‘action’.
Last but not least, during Book Week a number of classes participated in a range of livestreamed author talks, provided by Dart Learning. They were fabulous and well received. Sessions were presented by award winning authors – Sue degennaro (We’re Stuck), Yvette Poshoglian (Dear Gretta) and Gabriel Evans (Norton and the Bear). Other sessions included unpacking a book entitled ‘Dancing with Memories’ that addressed dementia and finally there was an adventure writing session.
Congratulations to the below authors and illustrators on being selected as the winner for their category in the 2022 CBCA Book Of the Year Award.
