Welcome Message from the Principal
Prayer for Reconciliation
Let our two worlds combine, Yours and mine.
The door between us is not locked just ajar
There is no need for the mocking or the mocked to stand afar,
With wounded pride or angry mind,
Building a wall to crouch and hide
To cry or sneer behind
This is ours together,
This nation- No need for separation,
It is time to learn.
Let us forget the hurt.
Join hands and reach
With hearts that yearn.
Your world and mine is small
The past is done,
Let us stand together, wide and tall.
And God will shine upon us all
Each and everyone.
Dear Friends,
Welcome to Sabbath week where I hope you have had some opportunity with your children to take a breath, or spend time after school doing something special together (other than homework!). Today also marks the last day of Reconciliation Week 2021, which the prayer above focuses on. This was shared as a part of a beautiful Reconciliation Week prayer Celebration, facilitated by 3/4 Blue. At this ceremony we were also presented with the message sticks that children across our school and ELC have had opportunity to help paint. These will be displayed in our front garden, near our flagpoles over the coming weeks.
This week I have continued the privilege of interviewing Kindergarten 2022 children and their parents. Often in the conversations parents comment about how they have heard what a wonderful and involved community we have at Holy Trinity. This is certainly true and something I, as the Principal, am very proud to be a part of. I know in 2020 we were very challenged as a community as we were unable to join together physically for events and volunteering. This year as restrictions have eased, I know there are many in our community that are thrilled to be able to come back into our school and help in the classrooms, library etc. Unfortunately however, we seem to be struggling to fill in some of our volunteer roles that we greatly rely on. This is particularly evident with the tuck shop, and if we continue to have such large gaps in the volunteering, this may effect its viability in the near future. If you are able to help out please consider signing-up because the tuck shop really needs more helpers! The tuck shop operates Wed, Thurs, Fri every week between 9:00-11:30 each day. There will be a Tuck shop Manager on every shift so no need to worry about being overwhelmed with responsibility. In fact, we think you might even have some fun and meet some new parents so please consider giving it a try.
If you are able to assist, please sign-up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4FAAA623ABFBC16-tuck
If have any questions about volunteering, please call or text coordinator Patricia Micalos on 0400 019 226. A reminder also about the wonderful take meals available for families on the Qkr! App Under the Canteen section.
We also would love your feedback about the tuck shop service so far this term, by clicking on the very quick survey below. (Please note this survey will close on the 17th of June)

Speaking of surveys, last week we launched the annual school survey which is being produced by a new company across our archdiocese as follows:
Annual School survey- Tell Them from Me
We are currently inviting teachers, students (Year 4-6) and parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process.
We would like to invite you to complete the TELL THEM FROM ME (TTFM) Partners in Learning Survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and well being at Holy Trinity Primary School.
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. The survey is open until Friday 11th June. You will be able to access the parent survey on your computer or mobile device by using the URL below:

As many of you are aware, we have over the last few years, engaged the services of Focus Total Property Group to complete all our outdoor maintenance and bins. Michael and David Kane have now ceased this business, due to some new opportunities and we thank them so much for all they have done for our community over the past years. Michael will of course, continue to be a part of our community as a dad here (Elsa and Jo), which is wonderful! We now welcome Michael Borowski and his company Capital Grounds Maintenance who will now take over this contract.
Next week we welcome Lyn Pepper-Budge in 5 /6 Green until the 30th of July, as Mrs Casey is taking some Long Service Leave. We wish Rebecca and her family a wonderful time away and we thank Lyn for joining our community in her absence.
Please keep our Year 6 Confirmation candidates in your prayers as they continue to prepare for this Sacrament in our Parish in a couple of weeks. Today they are sharing in a Retreat Day and this weekend at all Parish Masses, these candidates and their parents will be presented to the congregation.
Please also keep in your prayers Anne Staines, Principal of Sacred Heart Pearce, whose husband Martyn passed away recently.
Wishing you all a holy and peace-filled week ahead with your beautiful families. Stay warm!

Common sense strategies for raising girls

As a father of six girls I’m often asked for strategies for raising girls to be happy, responsible and strong. Here are my top five strategies that are relevant for parenting girls of any age.
Help her feel connected
When you connect with your daughter you help her to feel seen, heard and valued, which are vital psychological needs. You connect by helping her feel your delight when she walks into the room. You connect by stopping what you’re doing and really listening when she speaks to you, and by ensuring she feels truly worthy and loved.
Help her feel she’s enough
On Father’s Day 2020, a 12-year-old girl completed a quiz about her dad, answering questions such as “What’s your favourite thing to do with your dad?” “What’s your favourite memory of your dad?” “What’s your favourite song to sing with your dad?”
One question asked her to complete a sentence: “I know my dad loves me because…” His daughter wrote, “Because I’m me, and that’s all he wants me to be.” Help your daughter feel that she’s enough because she is.
Help her navigate friendships with grace
Research highlights that girls have more friendship challenges and experience more relational issues than boys. Girls are more socially oriented. They fight more with words and emotions than boys who tend to fight with their bodies. Girls also ruminate more than boys. While fitting in is important for both genders, girls use social exclusion and relational aggression in unique ways that can really hurt.
If your daughter struggles with friendship issues there are no easy answers, however your attitude will make a huge difference. Gentle conversations that emphasise her value and worth, reinforcing your relationship are important when girls struggle. At some stage ask your daughter to reflect on these questions, “Do I like myself when I’m around those people?” and “Do I feel like I’m being true to who I am when I’m around these people?”
Help her love her body
Most girls want to feel beautiful. It’s a parent’s job to let them know they are – always. And that beauty comes from the inside. Never talk negatively about your daughter’s body. Body shaming doesn’t encourage healthier behaviour. It just makes girls want to disappear into the black hole of unworthiness. Remind her that it matters more what she can do with her body than how it looks.
Remember to let go
A parent’s job is to prepare them for life without them. You’re playing the long game, so the quality of your relationship really matters. Raising them to let them go is hard. But that’s just how it should be.

COMMUNICATION MODES IN PRIMARY SCHOOL
Catholic Education has rolled out a new school management platform called COMPASS. This platform allows parents and carers to access up-to-date and meaningful information about their child and their child’s progress. Compass includes many different features (please note we will not be utilsing the payment feature in Compass at this stage).
At present we will be utilising the following features:
- Submit absence notes
- Book parent-teacher conferences
- View your child’s academic reporting
- View your child’s attendance records
- Update basic contact information knowing your personal data is secure
HOLY TRINTY'S PRIMARY SCHOOL COMMUNICATION MODES
Yes, it is that time of the year again! The end of May is when we start to witness UV levels dropping off in Canberra to levels that are considered low (under 3) for part, if not most, of the day. It is also that time of the year when confusion sets in around sun protection recommendations in ACT school settings.
To keep things simple and consistent for ACT primary schools and early childhood services, many years ago Cancer Council ACT coined the phrase End Of May is Hats Off Day to assist these busy settings with their ‘hats on’ (hats off) behaviour.
So, in keeping with the End of May is Hats Off Day tune, all Canberra primary school students (and teachers) can leave their hats off for the months of June and July due to low (under 3) daily UV levels each day in the ACT.
The End of May spells Hats Off Day for ACT primary schools, for a few months anyway because the Beginning of August is Hats On Again For All Of Us as UV levels start to rise again in Canberra putting sensible sun protection behaviour back on the radar.
