Welcome Message from the Principal
be close to those who are ill, afraid or in isolation.
In their loneliness, be their consolation;
in their anxiety, be their hope;
in their darkness, be their light;
through him who suffered alone on the cross,
but reigns with you in glory,
Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
- We would continue to remain open for children of emergency workers and families needing support
- We would move to a remote learning model for all students
- Leadership and skeleton teaching staff would be on site on a rotational basis (excluding medically vulnerable staff)
Let us pray for those currently in lock down and also that we continue to remain COVID free in our area.
We continue to use both the Check in CBR App (now mandated) and Compass when signing students in or out of the school. All staff and any visitors entering the school must also use the Check in CBR App. Please note on wet weather days when carers are picking up students from classrooms early or in the hall, please use the mandated Check in CBR App- these are now around the hall and outside every classroom.
Unfortunately picking up arrangements are causing some safety concerns for our students, especially when arrangements are being made outside of supervised areas. The ring road out the front of the school is for families needing to access the disabled car park. The rest of the ring road space needs to be left for deliveries and if we were needing ambulance access. Students cannot independently go to a car on the ring road or Theodore st, especially as cars are moving in and out and teachers are not there supervising. All children must be escorted to parked cars by their carer, or they are safely placed in a car in the supervised drive through zone.
We have recently received the results from the school annual survey conducted last term. The School Board have looked at some data last night and will continue to delve into analysis of this for future planning at our next meting in Week 7. We will then share this relevant data with you in the Week 8 newsletter.
Have a wonderful weekend and a peace-filled week ahead with your beautiful families.

Sickness in the ELC
There has been a notable increase in sick children and staff at the preschool this term. Thank you to those families who are keeping their unwell children home. This is a reminder to families to please keep your children at home if they are exhibiting any cold or flu like symptoms. The preschool program includes sustained periods of both indoor and outdoor experieces and learning. If children present as being unwell or are unable to maintain the demand of the program they will be required to go home. Thank you for your support in maintaining and safe and healthy environment for all.
Hats, Hats, Hats
Our SunSmart policy states that all children and staff are required to wear hats and sunscreen when outside from August to April each year. Please ensure your child has a clearly labelled hat each day and support them in applying sunscreen when they arrive in the morning.
Spare Clothes
Sometimes learning is messy, outdoor play can be wet or accidents happen. So we are all prepared for this, please pack season appropriate spare clothes in a your child's bag each day. The ELC also welcomes any donations of leggings or trackies that maybe on their way to Vinnies for our empty 'spares' basket. Thanks so much.
QR Code sign-in
We continue to welcome families into the ELC building when dropping off and picking up children. All families and visitors entering the ELC building are requested to sign in using the Check In CBR app. QR codes are located at each entry point of the building. Please remember to practise physical distancing when in the playground and sign in areas.
Stay and Play
Playgroup for pre-preschoolers and their families. Wednesday mornings from 9am-10.00am in the ELC Playground (weather permitting). Parents, grandparents, carers and children are all very welcome. Please sign in using the Check in CBR app.
The perks and pitfalls of being born first

The birth of a first child is a big event. Such is the excitement and emotion that parents often don’t realise that the baby that they bring home is a ground breaker, taking them headlong into every stage of development.
First-borns are born into a privileged position. Living in the spotlight, they get piles of attention and as they grow up, they are given more responsibility than other children in other positions. They lead the way, break new ground, and rule the roost if others follow. Parents expect a great deal from first-borns, so to avoid disappointing them many become low risk-takers. Parental expectation and their tendency for perfectionism and conscientiousness can make first-borns more anxiety prone than children in other birth order positions.
First-born children can be bossy, responsible, and achievement-oriented but they are more neurotic, more intense, and more inflexible than children in any other birth order position. Taking life and themselves too seriously is a problem for many first-borns Here are some tips for parenting children and young people in this privileged but anxiety-prone position:
Encourage rather than praise or criticise
First-borns respond to encouragement as it releases the pressure on them to perform. When they know that effort, improvement, and contribution matter more to parents than good results they’re more likely to take risks and stretch themselves as learners.
Save responsibilities for others
First-borns know all about responsibility, as they get more than their fair share of jobs and reminders to be good role models. Share chores, responsibilities, and expectations among all children in the family, including youngest children.
Enjoy two-on-one time
First-borns love having both parents to themselves, if applicable, as that’s the way life was until a second-born came along and robbed them of their privileged position. Only children are fortunate that they don’t experience the ‘disgrace’ of dethronement.
Embed wellbeing practices into family life
Help anxiety prone first-borns develop positive wellbeing habits including healthy eating, adequate exercise, and sleep and relaxation techniques such as mindfulness and meditation.
In Closing
The drive, leadership and attention to detail of first-borns contributes enormously to society. We need to help them lighten up and enjoy themselves as well.
