Lord, open up our hearts so that we may hear the message you teach of a world in which the wrongs of the past are recognised - a world in which a reconciled people walk and talk together sharing stories; a world in which all burn with the desire to have your peace and justice reign.
Dear Friends,
Welcome to Reconciliation Week 2022 at Holy Trinity School and ELC! 'National Reconciliation Week—27 May to 3 June—is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia (Reconciliation Australia).' The theme for 2022 is 'Be Brave, Make Change'. Here at Holy Trinity we have celebrated in classes and as a whole school by learning about the apology to the Stolen Generations, watching a performance by Torres Straight Islander performer, Dion Drummond and exploring First Nations artefacts (did you know- a woomera uses the same design principles as a dog ball thrower!) On Friday we will mark the conclusion of Reconciliation week with a whole school Prayer Liturgy ( thank you Ms Lee and 3 /4 Red) and a series of rotations run by our Yr 6 leaders. Students will play Yulunga Games, test their knowledge with a reconciliation quiz and create a 'Sea of Hands' including personal commitments to Be Brave and Make Change in our own lives. We encourage our community to checkout our installation in the front gardens from Friday afternoon!
Community members are always welcome to join our Reconciliation Action Plan working group, please contact Rose Lee if interested: rosemary.devereux@cg.catholic.edu.au

Thank you again for your understanding with our Pupil Free Day last Friday. A reminder for the following two Pupil free days coming up in the next couple of months:
- Friday 1st July (last day of Term 2)
- Monday 18th July (first day fo Term 3)
Both our ELC and Kids Biz will be offering care for Monday 18th of July and Kids Biz for the 1st of July. (ELC will classes as normal for this day).
Another important date I would like to flag with you is on Wednesday 29 June. The P&F is hosting an information session on Wednesday 29 June 2022 from 7-8pm in the school library to speak with parents on how you can connect, become involved and volunteer within the school. Each year Holy Trinity’s Parents and Friends (P&F) Association run a number of fundraising events and school activities such as the Mother/Father’s Day stalls, special tuckshop days, uniform shop, and in 2023 the school fete. These activities require a lot of community support and involvement and the P&F is looking to rebuild our school’s volunteer database. We will also like to begin exploring ideas for next years school fete and keen to hear from you about what elements are important when running such an event. If you are interested to volunteer for school activities but unsure how to, or have an idea about stalls for next years fete please come along to our informal gathering and chat with current P&F members. Please also come if you would like to meet some of our parents, but have been unable to have this opportunity until now because of restrictions. Light refreshments will be offered. We hope to see many of you on the night and encouraged parents to become involved and participate in this important parenting network.
If you would like to be involved but unable to attend please email your details to htpspffundraising@gmail.com’- thank you Rowena.
Please keep in your prayers the Nikoloau Family (Aimee Year 5) for the loss of their grandmother recently. Please also keep in your prayers Antonija Rover (Italian teacher) who continues to recover at home. We hope to welcome her back to Holy Trinity very soon as she is greatly missed!
Have a wonderful weekend (stay warm!) and a peace-filled week ahead with your beautiful families. Please do not hesitate to reach out for anything at all and continue to stay safe.
Warmest wishes,
Philippa

Free Flu Vaccination
Children, especially those under 5, can become seriously ill from the flu – which can sometimes be fatal.
The best protection against flu is to receive an influenza vaccine, which is safe, effective and free to all children from 6 months to under 5 years of age under the National Immunisation Program.
On Thursday, 26th May at 11.40am the Holy Trinity Community gathered in the hall and participated in the 2022 National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS). We were a day late, but we had a fabulous time.
NSS for 2022 was held at the National Library. The author, Josh Pyke welcomed us all and then read aloud his book ‘Family Tree”. This was followed by an interview with the illustrator Ronojoy Ghosh and we finally finished up with a singing session with Josh Pyke. The singing session was a huge hit and we all sung along.
Thank you to all those who remembered their stuffed toys – the children loved having something to hold while being involved in the NSS.

Click on the link below if your child wants to watch the event again. Also, if you get a moment listen to some of Josh Pyke’s music – he is really good.
Join the book's author Josh Pyke, reading the story live on Scholastic Australia’s Facebook page
This year there were 2,186,347registered participants, from over 59,038locations. Every year the event numbers increase by 1000’s.
At the conclusion of the event classes went back to their rooms and completed a range of activities based on the book. Big fun.
Happy Days.

Yes, it is that time of the year again! The end of May is when we start to witness UV levels dropping off in Canberra to levels that are considered low (under 3) for part, if not most, of the day. It is also that time of the year when confusion sets in around sun protection recommendations in ACT school settings.
To keep things simple and consistent for ACT primary schools and early childhood services, many years ago Cancer Council ACT coined the phrase End Of May is Hats Off Day to assist these busy settings with their ‘hats on’ (hats off) behaviour.
So, in keeping with the End of May is Hats Off Day tune, all Canberra primary school students (and teachers) can leave their hats off for the months of June and July due to low (under 3) daily UV levels each day in the ACT.
The End of May spells Hats Off Day for ACT primary schools, for a few months anyway because the Beginning of August is Hats On Again For All Of Us as UV levels start to rise again in Canberra putting sensible sun protection behaviour back on the radar.
Read more about UV exposure and the healthy balance for Vitamin D benefits here.
