Welcome from our School Board Chair
Dear Friends,
I would like to begin my message this week by recognising and thanking the wonderful staff at Holy Trinity for the recent parent teacher interviews and three-way conferences. Having spoken to many of you following your interviews / conferences with your child’s teacher, I know that these were of great value to our parent community. From a personal perspective, I was delighted to see how well teachers knew and understood the learning, social and personal needs of my children. I was also appreciative of the opportunity to discuss those things which we, as parents, can do to support the on-going development of our children.
Holy Trinity School Uniform Policy
On a different note, one of the matters discussed at the Board Meeting earlier this week was to update several school policies. Part of this discussion included the development of a Holy Trinity School Uniform Policy. Previously, the uniform requirements for Holy Trinity have been prescribed in other documents but were not recorded formally in a Policy document. The proposed Policy, outlined below, does not include any changes to current uniform, but it does provide a clear and concise guide to uniform requirements.
Holy Trinity School Uniform (Draft Policy)
An important element of our school is the wearing of a school uniform. We believe that this creates pride in oneself and pride in the school. All students are expected to wear school uniform unless a note from parents indicates an inability to do so. All uniform items are available at the Uniform Shop which is open, Friday each week at 3.15pm and advertised hours during the school holidays. Online orders are also available through the school QKR App.
Children should wear the summer or winter school uniform every day, unless wearing sports uniform. (This does not include special days or camps where families will be notified of clothing requirements). Sports uniform is worn on Wednesdays and Fridays. We ask the cooperation of parents in this matter.
Uniforms should be kept neat and tidy. While students may wear watches and one pair of stud earrings or small sleepers (not large sleepers or dangling earrings)- no other jewellery is to be worn. Hair ties must be maroon or royal blue (bottle green optional on sports days, or scrunchies/headbands the same material as tunics for girls).

Holy Trinity School Uniform Code
The school uniform is a part of our community identity at Holy Trinity School. It encourages pride in our appearance and pride in our school. Student appearance is also important in fostering our school values of respect and unity. If children are out of uniform for any reason, parents must provide a written note of explanation to the class teacher.
In accordance with the ACT Government SunSmart policy, students at Holy Trinity must comply with the No-School-Hat-No-Play rule. Shaded areas have been allocated for children to play in if they are not wearing their hat when outside. (except for June and July). It is important that children apply sunscreen before they arrive at school, and for parents to provide them with the skills needed to reapply as necessary.
Please also note the following general rules:
- Hair must be neat and tidy. It is to be the child’s natural colour and of a conservative style only. Students may not have designs shaved into their hair or wear other extreme hairstyles. Hair at shoulder length or longer must be secured in ponytails or plaits. Hair must be secured back from the eyes to allow students to work effectively and help reduce the risk of headlice.
- Hair ribbons and clips are to be the school colours of royal blue and maroon (bottle green optional on sports days) . Hair ties and pins may be of the child’s natural hair colour. Girls winter tunic and summer check dress may be worn with the matching fabric scrunchies/headband.
- No jewellery is permitted other than a simple watch, and/or one stud or small sleeper type earring (plain gold or silver) in either/both ears. Only earlobes are permitted to be pierced.
- A plain navy parka or jacket is permitted in cooler weather, and an optional navy beanie may be worn in the winter months. Scarves and gloves must be navy blue.
- School hats must be worn throughout the year, except in June and July when they are optional.
- Boots, slip ons (e.g. Vans) and high cut sneakers are unacceptable at all times
- Socks worn must cover the ankles
- Nail polish is not to be worn and students wearing this will be asked to remove it at the front office.
Please feel free to contact Philippa via email if you have any comments about this.

Wishing you all the very best for the rest of this Semester.

First Eucharist Retreat Day
The Parish of the Transfiguration First Eucharist Candidates and their class mates came together last Thursday at Holy Trinity to participate in their retreat day before celebrating the Sacrament on the weekend. The candidates celebrated mass with Holy Trinity parishioners, acted out role plays, experienced a Lectio Divina Prayer, created artwork and discussed the meaning and significance of the Sacrament of First Eucharist.
Thank you to the Year 3/4 teachers and all their hard work and guidance in preparing the students for this Sacrament. A big thank you to all the Year 4 non-candidates who have supported their class mates throughout this journey.

First Eucharist
Congratulations to the students who on the weekend received the Sacrament of First Eucharist. We pray that in receiving the Body and Blood of Christ, they are brought into a deeper relationship with God. We continue to keep them in our prayers.
A special thank you to all the parents, staff, families and parish who supported the children through this Sacrament; and to Monsignor John Woods.

Helping kids tolerate discomfort
by Michael Grose
Few right-minded people want children or young people to experience hardships or difficulty. However growing up generally means that kids will experience their fair share of hardships, frustrations and challenges which lead to uncomfortable feelings.
Exercising their discomfort muscles
Tolerating discomfort is an important resilience skill. It refers to an ability to sit with an uncomfortable or emotionally painful feeling such as disappointment, apprehension, nervousness or fear. These emotions can be brought about as a result of not being picked for a team; getting lower than expected marks for an assignment; or going into new, unfamiliar situation such as school camp. These are the sorts of every day situations that can make some kids feel uncomfortable. It’s helpful to think of discomfort as a ‘muscle’ that gets stronger with training. Each time a child or teen successfully tolerates discomfort they’re reinforcing their ability to do so and cementing the knowledge that they can overcome emotional challenges.
Opportunities to practise tolerating discomfort
Opportunities for practice are plentiful and are found in common situations such as when a child or teen is: feeling hungry; wanting something they can’t have; having to end screen time; contributing to household chores when they don’t feel like it; missing out on a job interview; asking someone on a date or not receiving a party invitation.
It’s not toughing it out
Tolerating discomfort doesn’t mean toughing out an unbearable situation. It’s teaching your anxious child to notice how they’re feeling, naming their emotions, and practising acceptance of difficult feelings as they occur. This is done in the knowledge that what they’re experiencing is temporary and that they’re lovingly supported by a warm and comforting adult. Couple tolerating discomfort with social rewards (such as words of praise or shared fun activity) for coping behaviours and you’re helping to build their personal resilience.
